Children who live in the poorest areas of Israel, especially those in geographically isolated regions, do not receive an education that enables social mobility. Israeli public school education from grade school through high school is severely lacking, particularly in low-income neighborhoods and regions far from the economic centers. Many of these small, widely dispersed and isolated villages have less than 30 kids, which does not justify the high cost of building and equipping educational centers or extracurricular activities.

Ofanim is changing this. Ofanim’s mobile classrooms defy the reasoning that prevents the vast majority of organizations from operating in these communities, and literally brings the educational opportunities to these kids’ backyards.

Friends of Ofanim is working to help every child in Israel have educational opportunities that permit them to break out of the cycle of poverty and achieve their dreams. Driving education directly to the kids encourages participation and it becomes something the children and parents look forward to. Without Ofanim, many of these children will never see or use a computer, they will not explore the wonders of a science lab, they will not have art enrichment or even understand basic math. This is not supplemental education; it is basic. Ofanim is driving education in Israel, and is changing the road these children’s lives will take.
